Inauguration Of Rotary/IWA Clinic On October 22

On April 11, 1962, eleven women of different nationalities, each one of them determined to provide services to poor children, got together and formed the International Women’s Association (IWA). They rented space in the Fort Gratuitous Dispensary (Raveline Street, Fort, Bombay) and started a free medical and nutritional clinic in 1963. It functioned twice a week in the mornings. As times changed and demands for their services grew, this dynamic group of women opened clinics at various locations, extended their hours of service and focused on family planning by opening a gynaecological clinic and also started a cancer detection centre.

IWA provides free and subsidised medical treatment, medicines and food Inauguration Of Rotary/IWA Clinic On October 22 supplements to poor and underprivileged women and children. Changes in technology and the growing population of women and children in need have once again inspired the IWA members to grow. A partnership forged with the Rotary Club of Bombay earlier this year saw a complete redesign and rework of the clinic. Rotary’s own doctors will now partner with the IWA doctors to offer top quality medical care through services provided by general practitioners, dentists, paediatricians and (soon) radiologists.

An on-site dispensary will dispense free medication. Women’s Empowerment Committee Chairpersons Arin Master and Dr. Rajeev Narvekar invite all Rotarians along with their spouses and families to the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newlyrenovated Rotary/IWA clinic at 11 am on Thursday, October 22.
