Looking like ten million bucks: Heritage museum is all lit up

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS, also known as the Prince of Wales museum) will be lit up every evening just like the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters. The Rs one crore illumination project has been undertaken by the Rotary Club of Bombay. The International Rotary Club president-elect Mark Maloney and his wife Gay, inaugurated the project on Saturday evening.

Manoj Israni, a member of the club, said, “By adopting sustainable practices such as the new facade lighting project, not only will the museum’s view as heritage architecture will be enhanced but it will also serve to protect the urban heritage of Mumbai city.”

The chief guest, Mark Maloney, said appreciatively, “Initiatives of environmentally sustainable practices will set an example of the long-term solutions the club commits to deliver in communities throughout the world.” The club started the green initiative project in the Vastu Sangrahalaya in 2015. Under the project, 48 photovoltaic rooftop panels, around 100 solar panels, rainwater harvesting and waste water treatment have been undertaken, to reduce the museum’s carbon footprint.
