Since its inception, RcISDI has tried to initiate various small projects to integrate along with their intensive coursework. Most of them are club level initiatives. The following is an update on their progress through the first half of the year, which began with a unique inauguration at the grand Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in the presence of the esteemed Governor.

A spooky Halloween celebration followed, through ‘Trick or Treat’ and a grand Cosplay that all students enthusiastically participated in. The costumes were judged by the Fashion Design Department along with Rotaract Moderator, Sona. Next came Diwali which was celebrated traditionally. The second year students took a trip to Goa to enjoy a design and creativity fest. To create The Night Study Centres’ annual meeting took place on 23rd January, 2016. President Dr. Sonya Mehta was the Chief Guest for the program and was accompanied by a host of Rotarians including Past Presidents, Office bearers, Board members and Rotaryannes.

Approximately 700 students, teachers, invitees and guests participated in the yearly program filled with fun and entertainment. awareness and raise funds for the cause of Breast Cancer, the students indulged in a ‘Bake-a-thon’, selling cupcakes, donating the proceeds. Christmas had a merry mood sweeping the halls of ISDI. Wrapped in holiday cheer, a Christmas party was planned where a Secret Santa was the highlight, with the staff and students huddling around with presents The Nutritional Support Programme initiated in July 2015 grew to 4 Centres by its last quarter and serves the much needed diet and nourishment for the students.

While this action has directly benefitted the students, its indirect but important effect has been experienced by the parents too, who state that the children have stopped asking for pocket money to eat junk food from the wayside. This has thus turned out to be a double blessing to the families! Prizes were distributed amongst winners for each other. RcISDI is set to make the most of the coming Rotaract Year with many exciting projects in the pipeline. In 2016, they are working towards raising funds for the Dharavi Art Room through a Charity Ball at D’Bell, Lower Parel. Here’s wishing more power to the RcISDI, as yet another feather in the decorated RCB hat!
