BY Girls Visit SNDT

On the 5th of April, 2016, twenty-six of Bhavishya Yaan’s girl students, from all of the five centers, paid a visit to SNDT (Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey) Women’s University – the very first women’s-only university in India as well as in South East Asia. Headquartered at Churchgate in South Mumbai, with its main campus in Santacruz, SNDT was founded in 1916, and saw its first batch of five women graduates in 1921! Varsha, SNDT’s Head of Department welcomed BY’s twenty-six representatives who have opted for higher Math and were thus eligible to apply for admission in the college. She showed them various presentations detailing the courses conducted as well as the career scope and the availability of jobs, based on these courses.

She also explained the difference between a University Degree and a College Degree, in addition to sharing insightful information about various ongoing Diploma Courses as well. The girls could choose from amongst lucrative options including Electronic Engineering; Ophthalmic; DMLT; Polytechnic; Jewelry Designing; Interior Designing; Fashion Designing and the Food industry. The girls were also made aware of organisations like India Bulls and Mahindra that offer scholarship schemes for open category students – thus making it an added advantage for them, when it came to funding and job prospects.

The girls were then divided into two groups and each group was familiarized with SNDT’s various departments, giving the excited girls the opportunity to ask queries and clear doubts. The students were also asked to get their caste certificates made so as to facilitate them to get admission. The facility of online admission was also made available for them. All in all, the visit was very informative and fruitful and a lot of the students have shown an active interest in joining SNDT for further studies. Yet another feather in the dynamic BY Committee cap!
