Physiotherapy For AY

ANANDA YAAN ALONG WITH DIGNITY FOUNDATION ORGANISED PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR SENIOR MEMBERS ON MARCH 18TH (BYCULLA CENTRE) & MARCH 19TH (DR. E MOSES ROAD CENTRE), 2021.

Dr. Surabhi Agarwal (P.T.) visited both centres to conduct practical sessions on the importance of exercise for all, including senior citizens.

She discussed the need for them to not ignore their symptoms and consult their physiotherapist/ doctor regularly if suffering from pain/ injury. She talked about the physical and mental changes their bodies face with advancing age and how exercises keep them healthy, independent and motivated. She gave postural advice like sitting straight and not for longer periods, taking micro-breaks from one position, and avoiding jerks, forward bending, and heavy weightlifting when one has pain in the lower back. Some exercises were taught for postural correction.
Dr. Surabhi focused on the problem of urinary incontinence and pelvic health among the middle and old age population and taught exercises to prevent the same. The group was also taught balancing exercises to prevent the risk of falls common to senior citizens and some general exercises for knee, low back, and shoulder joints with appropriate precautions. She also talked about pranayama and breathing exercises important for good lung health, especially important during Covid-19.

She concluded the session with advice to maintain a balance between rest and work throughout the day.
