IWC: Shopping with the senior citizens of Ananda Yaan
INNER WHEEL CLUB OF BOMBAY QUEEN’S TIARA 2024–25: It was a beautiful morning filled with excitement and anticipation as 80 elderly women from Ananda Yaan — an initiative by the Rotary Club of Bombay and managed by the Dignity Foundation — waited eagerly in line outside Reliance Smart Bazaar, Matunga. The sight of these senior citizens, radiant with joy and enthusiasm, set the tone for what would be a heartwarming and memorable event.
Each guest was welcomed with a rose and a traditional tikka, making them feel valued and special right from the start. With a shopping budget of ₹1,000 per person, they were given one hour to explore the store and purchase items of their choice. Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Queen’s Tiara, along with the staff of Reliance Smart Bazaar, actively assisted the women — helping them locate their chosen items, guiding them through the aisles, and managing the billing process. Though it required a great deal of energy and coordination, the smiles on the ladies’ faces and the stories they shared after their shopping experience made every bit of effort worthwhile.

Special thanks were extended to all the generous donors, especially the club members whose contributions made this initiative possible. A heartfelt mention also goes to the members’ children, who not only participated in the event but played a significant role in ensuring that the senior citizens enjoyed a seamless and joyful shopping experience.
This thoughtful and inclusive event served as a reminder of how community support and intergenerational bonding can come together to create moments of happiness, dignity, and shared joy.
