Bhavishya Yaan Annual Day Celebrations
Rotary Club of Bombay’s Bhavishya Yaan turns 8.
The widely acclaimed student enrichment program being run by the Rotary Club of Bombay in five Municipal schools directly, turned eight on the 4th. August. A well attended function was held at the Colaba Municipal school where the successful passing out batch of all five schools were felicitated by veteran film actor Gulshan Grover.
Ramesh Narayan, the President of Rotary Club of Bombay said he was very happy that what began as a dream in one school with 40 children, had grown into a meaningful program that was positively impacting the lives of more than 1000 underprivileged children on an on-going basis. He added that the Rotary Club of Bombay was providing special classes for Spoken English, Computer Learning and Life Skills in these Municipal schools. The program included several interesting offsite visits to a range of destinations ranging from Nature Parks and Naval ships to the sets of popular TV serials. This, said Narayan, provided vital exposure to these children. The children had achieved 100% passing percentage at the last board exam, and had topped several Municipal schools’ results.
Satyan Israni, the Chairperson of Bhavishya Yaan Committee of the Rotary Club of Bombay said that this program had fired the imagination of Rotarians and their partners who participated in monitoring and mentoring the kids on a daily basis. It had also attracted several corporates who were impressed by the quality of the program they were undertaking to contribute toward the running expenses of each school. Israni added that an important aspect of this program was the fact that it recruited mainly Gulshan Grover, Ms. Bhavna Daftary of Bharat Serums and Vaccines and President Ramesh inaugurating the new Computer lab at Colaba Municipal School children from Marathi, Hindi and Urdu medium to make them proficient and ready for higher education. The Rotary Club of Bombay was also contributing to the college education of these children with scholarships.
The evening also saw the inauguration of a newly equipped computer lab for the Bhavishya Yaan children at the Colaba Municipal school by Gulshan Grover and Bhavna Daftary of Bharat Serums and Vaccines.
