On December 7th, 2024, NMJ School of the Bhavishya Yaan celebrated the grand finale of its eight-day Literature Festival, dedicated to the life and works of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The event was a tribute to the legendary poet, writer, musician, and artist, offering students a rich exploration of his literary and cultural legacy. The festival provided an immersive journey through Tagore’s poetry, stories,
music, and art, with a particular emphasis on his literary contributions.

Despite the logistical challenges posed by the ongoing elections, which saw the school bustling with policemen and classrooms repurposed for election work, the event continued with determination and enthusiasm. English classrooms were allocated for election duties, but the organisers adapted by utilising a computer lab, which became a hub of activity as students from classes 3 to 9 gathered for the festival.

The week-long sessions included readings and explanations of Tagore’s iconic poems Paper Boats and Coloured Toys, as well as stories like Kabuliwala and When Wishes Come True. These sessions, complemented by interactive question-andanswer segments, provided students with profound insights
into Tagore’s genius. Alongside these literary discussions, craft and drawing activities prepared students for the finale. The grand finale on December 7th was a spectacle of talent and creativity. The Bhavishya Yaan classrooms and corridors were adorned with art created by students and teachers, evoking a Bengali aesthetic and offering a fitting backdrop for the event. Students arrived punctually, dressed in vibrant costumes that reflected Bengal’s rich cultural heritage, brimming with excitement for the day’s performances.

The programme featured an array of mesmerising performances, including speeches, poetry recitations, skits, dances, and songs by students from classes 3 to 9. Each performance showcased the students’ exceptional talent and dedication, leaving the audience in awe. Guests, including Rotarians, donors, principals, teachers, and BMC officials, actively engaged with the students, offering encouragement
and applause throughout.

A highlight of the programme was the seamless interaction between students and guests. The children eloquently shared their experiences with the Bhavishya Yaan classes, impressing everyone with their confident delivery and artistic expressions. The finale concluded on a joyful note, with an impromptu dance performance that saw teachers, guests, and students dancing together, symbolising unity
and celebration.

This grand finale was the fulfilment of a vision cherished by mentor Jaya Prasad and the dedicated teachers of Bhavishya Yaan. Their unwavering guidance and support transformed the event into a spectacular success, creating memories that will be cherished by all who attended.

The event concluded with guests leaving heartfelt messages in a feedback book, expressing their appreciation for the remarkable efforts of the students and organisers. As a thoughtful gesture, each guest received a handmade bookmark crafted by primary students—a keepsake to commemorate the enchanting day.

The Literature Festival was not merely an event but a vibrant celebration of Tagore’s enduring legacy, inspiring students and guests alike to embrace the beauty of art, literature, and culture.
