Students of Class 4 at NMJ School, all part of the Bhavishya Yaan programme, recently had an enriching hands-on experience in organic farming, thanks to the initiative of Primary School Principal and Building Incharge, Mrs. Sumitra Yamgekar. Determined to make meaningful use of the school terrace, Mrs. Yamgekar introduced the children to each stage of organic farming.

The students learnt to prepare compost using kitchen waste, sow seeds of carrots, tomatoes, beans and flowers, and maintain daily growth records of their seedlings. They also understood the importance of correct watering practices to ensure healthy plant growth.

Their efforts culminated on November 8th, when excitement filled the school as the children harvested the carrots they had grown themselves. They then prepared the soil for the next cycle by planting turmeric.

The students were delighted and proud to see their hard work transform into thriving plants and vegetables. Kudos to Mrs. Sumitra Yamgekar for nurturing environmental awareness through this inspiring initiative.
