Objective: Carry out holistic development in an adopted village. Towards this objective, Gale Village (Wada; Palghar District) was identified and a decision taken to adopt the same based on proximity to the Wada Taluka place, as well as some past work done by Rotary in the village.

Gale Village: 100 tribal families, population about 450.

GOALS

  1. WaterShed Development: facilitate drinking water and irrigation
  2. Environment: plant trees and waste management
  3. Income Generation
  4. Education: improving quality of infrastructure
  5. Housing: contributing to renovation and building new houses
  6. Renovating crematorium
  7. Solar Power for street lighting & pumps

ACTION TAKEN

  1. Engaged services of Keshav Srushti: carried out need assessment and devised action plan
  2. Engaged services of WOTR: evaluated the water needs of the village and infrastructure required
  3. Engaged services of Eureka Forbes: determination of quality of water
  4. Engaged services of Life Foundation: the needs of Aanganwadis.

PROGRESS MADE

  1. Along with the Environment Avenue, planted 600 fruit-bearing trees on farmers’ private lands. Beneficiaries: 23 families. Supported by RCM Jewels.
  2. Eureka Forbes carried out the water testing at multiple water sources in the village and found the water to be potable. Supported by RC Bombay.
  3. WOTR survey reconfirmed the need to construct one well at Dhindepada. The construction of the well is complete. Supported by RCM Versova and Bhagchandka Family. Beneficiaries 70. Project Cost: Rs. 9 lakh.
  4. Repair and renovation work completed for aanganwadis, supported by RC Bombay with the assistance of Life Foundation. Project Cost: Rs. 4 lakh.
  5. Drip irrigation material delivered for installation in Valvi Pada. Supported by RCM Versova & RC Bombay. Beneficiaries: 18 farmers with land holding of 5.5 hectare. This would increase incomes substantially. Project Cost: Rs. 7.00 lakh.
  6. Quotations for repairs of the crematorium and reinstallation of water supply pipeline in PatilPada being evaluated. Project Cost: Rs. 7.50 lakh.
  7. Obtained a list of families qualified under PMAY-G. Around 70 applications are being processed and expected to take a couple of months. Besides these applicants, a list was made of 12 such families who have not applied for the assistance under PMAY-G. Evaluation is under process.
  8. The ZP School was renovated, a toilet block and play equipment were also installed in RY 2017-18 through a District Grant obtained by RCM Versova.
