This past year, the Urban Heritage Committee (UHC) continued its work with the Asiatic Society of Mumbai to conserve approximately 120 maps, some of which date back to the 1800s. Some maps have been affected by termites while others have been folded for so long that they are detached and torn. They are painstakingly put together after applying various techniques.

The UHC also collected funds for the conservation and digitisation of over 150 books. Social media activities of the Asiatic continued to be sponsored by RCB and these efforts have been featured in various publications.

Apart from the UHC’s work at the Asiatic, the committee also organised a heritage walk in January 2020 to Banganga and the surrounding areas. The walk was sold out in a day of opening invitations to our Club.

Stay tuned for some exciting events coming up in the next year from the UHC. Work has already commenced on preparing for a one-of-a-kind exhibition for the maps that are being conserved.
