Crayon Etching For Lighthouse

THE ANTICIPATION AND JOY WITH WHICH WE CAREFULLY SCRAPED OFF PORTIONS OF BLACK WAX COATING TO REVEAL A MULTIHUED DESIGN UNDERNEATH IS A CHILDHOOD MEMORY MANY OF US CHERISH.

On Saturday, March 20th, our Lighthouse students of classes 3 to 5 experienced the same joy during their weekly art and craft class.

The activity commenced with children painstakingly filling the entire page with tiny blocks of bright colours on the instructions of the teacher. After that, came the crucial second step where a thick coat of black crayon was applied over the entire page. Finally, children used their imagination to etch out a design of their choice on the paper.
Such art activities, simple though they seem, give youngsters a much-needed outlet for expression and creativity at a time when the pandemic has snatched most other forms of enjoyment like socialising with classmates in school and evening playtime.
