Fresh Life Infused Into Water

Intermittent lockdowns notwithstanding, a water conservation project has finally been completed by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay, in Dignity Lifestyle Township, Karjat. A large reservoir that can store over 9.8 lakh litre of water during the rainy season, coupled with all associated investments for rainwater harvesting, has been constructed within the premises of Dignity Lifestyle Township. Additionally, all the four existingbore wellshave been recharged by directing the runoff water which was going to the drains earlier, to the recharge pits around the bore wells.

The project was conceived by PP Jayati Dasgupta and supported by the managing trustees of Dignity Foundation, Dr. Sheilu Sreenivasan, Rtn. Pranay Vakil and others. A project of this magnitude required a lot of space and adequate funding. Dignity Foundation not only had a huge open area which could be utilised for this purpose, it also had all necessary government approvals to execute the project. IWC Bombay therefore joined hands with Dignity Foundation to set up this project.

The inauguration, on June 29th, 2021, started at 11 am next to the reservoir with PP Sweta Vakil welcoming all guests. A small puja was performed at the venue followed by adevotional songbyPP Susmita Mitra of IWC, Bombay. This was followed by the inaugural speech by PPJayati Dasgupta who thanked the support and contribution of Dignity Foundation, Dr. Sheilu, PP Sweta Vakil, RCB and all the donors.PP Jayati said, “I look at this project as an environment-friendly project as it will conserve a lot of water. Since the water table in the area will get recharged, all borewells of adjacent areas drawing water from the same water table will get a better yield. This will benefit the surrounding areas and benefit a larger community.”

In her vote of thanks, Dr. Sheilu expressed her happiness at the completion of this project.
The event was followed by a guided tour of the newly-constructed FTD centre.A delicious lunch was hosted by Dignity. It was a day spent unwinding and unlocking, after the 16-month-long lockdown.
