Keep The Ocean Clean! That’s The Most Important Thing!
‘Keep the ocean clean! That’s the most important thing!’ sang our oldest Lighthouse students at the Litfest finale held on November 13th, 2021. The Litfest is an annual Lighthouse event where children explore different themes using language as a bridge.
This year, depending on their grade levels, kids learned about the inhabitants of Earth’s deep, hydrological cycle and the worrying issue of ocean pollution. Around 50 young ones were present for the virtual event with their parents. RCB President Shernaz Vakil attended the event and interacted with them. She asked them what they had learned and expressed her appreciation for their presentations.
The show began with the tiny tots of K.G. showcasing the different undersea creatures by dressing up as them. From jellyfish to octopus, the audience applauded as the recorded video showed the babies performing their parts. This was followed by an informative session with students of classes 1 and 2 acquainted listeners with the finer points of the water cycle. Then came the turn of our oldest batch from classes 3, 4, 5 and 6.
A rendition of the song Keep the Ocean Clean livened up the atmosphere while also conveying an important message. Taking inspiration from young eco-artist Rohan Chakravarty, the students shared their own eco-toons. The Ocean Guardian Pledge, which class 5 student Divyansh Sharma took on behalf of his class, impressed President Shernaz. The programme ended with her expressing her happiness at the children’s immersion in the theme of the fest and that she
hoped they would use it to make a difference to the planet’s future.
