Lighthouse Children Visit KGAF 2020!

Where in Mumbai would you find jellyfish made out of scrap cloth, a sweet old grandma artist and a tableau by India Post? All of these can be found at the 21st edition of the Kala Ghoda Festival 2020 and that’s where our Lighthouse kids headed on February 7th.

From watching a potter create beautiful earthenware upon the museum lawns to interacting with ‘arty dadi’ Gulbanu to boxing the heart disease monster at the Jaslok Hospital stall, the 15 students aged 9 to 11 were exposed to a variety of experiences. Upon viewing the installation of school girls holding kites bearing logos of social media, an 11 year old was confused. She was shocked to learn, that, in many parts of the country, girls have no access to mobile phones, leave alone social media. Some kind-hearted youngsters immediately agreed to take a pledge to donate their organs and were very disappointed to learn it was only for those above 18. All in all, it was a great learning experience and helped our children understand and appreciate the diverse elements that make up the fabric of India.

Our kids also got to meet Gulbanu, an elderly artist. She was pleased with the interest they showed and even explained the techniques she had used, to the kids, in English.
