Machimaar Kids Learn About Parsi New Year

PARSI New Year was celebrated by Lighthouse students on Friday, August 23rd, 2019. Students of classes 3 and 4 decorated the porch outside the class and a portion of the classroom floor with rangoli designs under the guidance of the teacher.

The celebration was held in two batches – at 4 pm for classes 1 to 4 and at 5 pm for class 5. Since hardly anyone had heard of Parsis, the teacher first explained who Parsis are with the help of a video.

She also narrated the popular ‘doodh ma sakar’ (sugar in milk) story about how the Parsis fled Iran and came to adopt India as their homeland. Then, a live demonstration of the ses (arti) ceremony was performed in front of the children. Finally, a plate containing dar ni pori, a traditional Parsi sweet, along with other snacks, was distributed to each child, sponsored by Rtn. Charu Agrawal.

We especially thank our teacher Ms Ivaaz for patiently explaining the beautiful traditions of Parsis to all our kids.
