Might Is Not Right, Says RCB

Thanks to Past President Ramesh Narayan, a unique initiative and event was organised at the Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) under the aegis of – IAA, IMC, Advertising Agencies Associations of India, The Advertising Club and our Club, on the much discussed subject of Mitigation of Violence Against Women.

Ten leading speakers raised serious concerns over the rising cases of violence against women in the country. PP Rtn. Ashish Vaid (President, IMC) spoke of the contradiction in the Indian psyche which worships deities in the female form but also propagates and supports violence against women in different forms. Ashish said, “Our social fabric must be strong. Instead of blaming others for influencing us, maturity is needed to accept what is right and disregard the rest.” Suggesting a proactive approach, Ashish said equal opportunities must be provided to women at work. “Secondary education must introduce moral science and counselling for both young girls and boys. Movies depicting violence against women and wrong content on internet must be censored.”

Similarly, President Preeti Mehta stressed the importance of sex education in schools as an awareness tool to fight violence against women. She said, ““It is our responsibility to educate the youth with the power of knowledge to protect them from sexual abuse. Sex education programmes need the collaboration of psychological experts who can address behavioural delinquencies and help to find an effective way to transcript the need for sexual responsibilities.” Speaking on the process of criminal trials, Preeti said that handling the cases of violence against women with care is essential along with preserving the evidence. Having a well-integrated team of prosecutors, experts, judges and fast-track courts will ensure higher conviction rates and fairness in the prosecu tion of perpetrators.
