ROTARY IS ALWAYS AROUND
It’s strange how Rotary is always around us!
There are signs and symbols of all the good work that is being done around the world. Yesterday in Lyon as I came out of the Notre Dame de Fourviere, and on to the square, there was a magnificent metallic reproduction of the entire city of Lyon created and presented to the city by the Rotary Club of Lyon. I couldn’t miss the photoop.
Unfortunately, I missed the Rotary Club of Lyon’s meeting by a day.
We may not remember often enough that we are part of a worldwide organisation that exists for only doing good in the world. An organisation that upholds service over all else, and that has recently added environment as an area of focus.
Rotarians understand that the whole world is their backyard. They can see the effects of climate change in communities they care about, and they haven’t waited to act. They’re tackling the problem the way they always do – coming up with projects.
Projects like educating the girl child indirectly reduces population and helps the environment whilst introducing regenerative agriculture and solar power and encouraging tropical forests are all projects that support the environment and are being taken up worldwide.
At our own Club environment has taken front stage as we prioritise the development of rural villages through pivoting solar power and regenerative agriculture. We have taken up the establishment of Miyawaki forests in urban areas. This year we will also focus on educating the girl child.
Rotary, with its worldwide initiatives and growing influence, will lead the way in supporting the environment.
