CAPTURE THE IDEALISM AND ENERGY OF YOUTH

In the past few weeks, I have noticed that several offsprings of our Rotarians have shown amazing passion and creativity to do some service in the community.

Rtn. Mayank Kummar’s daughter set out to inoculate the families of policemen. Rtn. Abhinav Aggarwal’s son
has created a website that informs and guides students interested in law. Rtn. Vandan and Rtn. Ptn. Ekta Shah’s kids volunteered at Bhavishya Yaan while in India and Rtn. Satyan Israni’s kids visit Anand Yaan and Lighthouse regularly. Rtn. Siddharth Bhimrajka’s kids participated in monthly grain distribution camps pre-Covid, while Rtn. Jamshyd Vazifdar, a fourth-generation Rotarian, brings so much energy and sincerity to every project he takes up.

The pandemic has reset the service button for youngsters. They are seeing the devastation and hardship around us, in our communities and, with being locked in, and with time on their hands, have found creative ways to help.

Certainly, if nothing else, this period has taught us lessons that we would never have learned if there had not been a slowdown in our lives.

Our Club needs to rejoice in this youthful energy and use it to invigorate our projects. We are an aging Club, having been around for over 90 years; we need to harness idealism and ideas of the youngsters around us.

It is for this reason that we propose to start a satellite club following the recommendation of Rotary International, to induct Rotaractors in the mainstream Rotary movement. Members could be past Rotaractors or even members’ children
who would like to experience Rotary on terms that may more easily meet their needs of finances and time.

Presently, the terms are being fleshed out by the Membership Committee and awaiting approval of the Board.
