UNASKED AND FROM THE HEART

“It is well to give when asked but it is better to give unasked, through understanding.

Therefore, give now that the season of giving maybe yours and not your inheritors.”

So Gibran wrote… and how relevant it is to our Rotarians. Barely have I conceived of an initiative and somehow the money comes in. This is the heart of a Rotarian always wanting to give, serve, and waiting for the opportunity to make a difference.

It is heartening to lead a Club where most members wish to be of some service big or small, to help society whichever way they can.

Every day I receive an idea for a new initiative brought in by an eager Rotarian, wanting to participate in a new area of service that we can be a part of. And though I am always concerned about where the money will come from, it miraculously appears, unasked, but so timely and welcome. This is the legacy of a great Club and the reason why we are able to do as much as we do, with projects that span several years of support to a community.

We may depend more on some Rotarians than others, but so much comes in quietly and unasked. May we always continue to make a difference, sometimes with a splash and at other times quietly.

I marvel at the Rotary movement, where so many are doing so much. And the gratitude one receives far outweighs the cost to us, and we wonder can we not do so much more? And every year we add to what is already being done, buoyed by the tide of desperate need and the ultimate gratitude we get.
