WHEN CAN WE MEET AGAIN…

Almost every day, I get a call from some Rotarian asking when we are going to start meeting in person again. Our Club has always been known for its vibrant interactive Tuesday luncheons with every Rotarian looking forward to meet their friends, discussing their projects and sharing the stories of the week.

It’s now been over a year and a half since we have met every Tuesday over a zoom call, greeting each other with perfunctory hellos, frustrated at the inability to have a meaningful conversation.

Last night we had the first Fellowship of the year, the Parsi night, which normally would have the Rotarians dressed in their Gara best, having a jolly good time as they eagerly looked forward to the Parsi feast organised for them by their Parsi hosts. This year, though we did manage to send out a few Parsi snacks, the fellowship lacked all the bonhomie and joy that comes from meeting and greeting each other in person.

Meanwhile, I am excited to visit the project initiated by our PP Ramesh Narayan at the Cuffe Parade Gardens on Sunday. This would be the first project visit of the year where we can see the good work that has been done and interact with a few of the Rotarians who show up to visit the urban forest, albeit masked and appropriately distanced!

The plan, dear Rotarians, is to start our luncheon meetings at the Taj possibly on a hybrid platform and hopefully by mid-October allowing for government restrictions and the possibility of a third wave…

These are unprecedented and unpredictable times and planning for the future is almost like Russian roulette.
