Project Chalaang Takes A Leap
Rotary Club of Bombay in association with Vipla Foundation enthusiastically kickstarted Project Chalaang on April 21st, 2022. President Shernaz announced that this is part of RCB’s concerted effort to uplift the tribal Vaidu community.
Chalaang is the leap that tribal children will take towards making a better future. From begging off the streets of Juhu beach or mindlessly playing “jugaad” for hours, they will come to a 10- day summer camp. The summer camp is conceptualised to encourage young children to explore their creative side through the culture of India.
The Vaidu children welcomed the Vipla Foundation team with their traditional dhol, yoga and dance performances.
Mr. Pramod Nigudkar, CEO, Vipla Foundation, amused and encouraged the children by trying to learn how to play the drums. Ms. Sapna Menon, Head, Early Interventions, explained how the project will proceed through the academic year.
We also thank Ms. Jyoti Nale /Tajne, Vipla Programme Director of Anti Human Trafficking Initiative, for their presence.
Maya Jadhav and Saee Bare, both mentors from Vipla, will oversee the summer camp with a team of teachers from the
Vaidu community. Ms. Durga Gudilu, leader of Vaidu community, welcomed the guests and thanked RCB and Vipla Foundation for giving their children a direction.
For the time being, 250 children from Jogeshwari and Marol will attend the camp. When more kids return from their villages after summer, they will join Project Chalaang through the academic year.
RCB especially thanks Mr. Dhanjay Khotpal and his creative team for developing an apt logo for Chalaang as their contribution towards this social cause.
