Project Red reaches out to students of Night Study Centre
The Night Study Centre Committee, in partnership with the YMCA, organised ‘Project Red’ on Friday, November 30, 2018, at the Abhyudaya Nagar Municipal school. This was an hour-long session on the topic of Menstruation, conducted by President Rtn. Aria Ohri (Rotary Club of Bombay Seacoast) and attended by 65 girl students of the Night Study Centre
programme. Also in attendance were Committee members Rtn. Varsha Daiya (with her daughter Kanchi), Rtn. Jamshyd Vazifdar and Rtn. Raj Ajmera. Rtn. SK Mitra was also present.
Through discussions and a short video, the students were educated on the workings of the body, myths were debunked and guidance was given to them. This was followed by the distribution of sanitary napkins to each of the students present. A few of the students volunteered to help conduct future sessions of this project. The students who attended will also be given a reference book, called ‘Menstrupedia’.
The principal of the Abhyudaya Nagar School requested that a similar session be conducted for all the students of the school and not just the students who are part of the Night Study Centre programme. Encouraged by the response, the Committee plans to conduct similar sessions in the other schools under the Night Study Centre programme.
