RCB and CSMVS celebrate Textile Gallery re-adoption

RCB and CSMVS celebrate Textile Gallery re-adoption The Urban Heritage Committee of the Rotary Club of Bombay and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) held an event on May 2nd, 2024, to commemorate RCB’s readoption of the Textile & Costume Gallery. This marks the second time RCB has embraced this invaluable gallery, which houses precious artefacts, costumes, and textiles. We extend our sincere gratitude to Rtn. Manoj Israni for adopting the gallery for the Urban Heritage Committee (UHC).

Textile holds myriad cultural layers. It is not merely viewed as a piece of art but rather as an integral facet of cultural heritage — a creation of humanity, accompanying us from birth to death, deserving of recognition and appreciation.

This significant moment, rooted in textile heritage and tradition, showcased the museum’s costume and textile collections.

The event was conceived by Ms. Priyasri Patodia, chairperson of the Urban Heritage Committee, with the support of the committee members and co-chair under President Manoj Patodia. Special acknowledgment is due to PP Ramesh Narayan for mentoring and guiding the team.

The UHC invited Jade By Monica and Karishma, a renowned fashion house, to curate the garments and fashion show. The duo is recognised for their close collaboration with grassroot artisans and their expertise in contemporising garments and silhouettes using traditional textiles, infusing them with a youthful flair. This aligns with the ethos of RCB, aiming to effect change in the lives of societies and communities.

The event, championed by Mrs. Sangita Jindal of JSW, commenced at 7:30 pm with a tour of the Textile & Costume Gallery at CSMVS. The curator, Ms. Manisha Nene, provided a curated tour to the guests, followed by “Legacy of Deft Hands – A Couture Show”, and concluded with cocktails and refreshments. We extend our heartfelt thanks to President Manoj Patodia for his unwavering support, co-chair Rtn. Jamshed Banaji, committee members Rotarian Partners Miloni Sampat, Shailja Mogul, Reema Kothari, Gauri Daiya for their contributions, and to all the trustees and board members of RCB and CSMVS for their assistance with the event.
