RCJC Provides Cover

The Community Service Avenue of Rotary Club of Jai Hind College (RCJC) organised ONE METRE APART, an event that aimed to provide isolation covers to rickshaw drivers who could not afford one. The isolation covers would act as a shield for both the driver and the passengers and protect them from the spread of coronavirus disease.

The project began on January 14th, 2021, with participants and volunteers shopping for the best isolation covers available at the lowest price, so that maximum numbers of covers could be donated.

After buying the covers, participants went around in search of auto rickshaws that did not have one. They approached the respective owners and made them understand the importance of isolation covers and handed it out to them.
The participants also helped the drivers to put up and arrange the covers in the auto. The best part about this event was that it was not limited to on-ground volunteers who bought and distributed the covers, there were other participants as well who could not go on ground but contributed to this initiative by donating money to buy the covers.

The money donated to the organisers was raised by selling newspapers and scraps. The event was a small but significant step to ensure the safety of the auto rickshaw drivers as well as travellers. The team hopes to keep organising similar projects to positively impact society.
