Seeing The Light

Children of the Machimaar Community at Lighthouse show signs of all-round development

Rtn. Hiranmay Biswas, Rtn. Rajesh Shah, Rtn. Sunita Mandelia and Rtn. Charu Agrawal spent an evening with children of Machimaar Community at Lighthouse, Bhadwar Park.

An exhibition was held to mark the end of the summer camp on June 28th. Over 40 people, mostly families and friends of the students from the community and volunteers attended.

The theme was ‘States of India’ and students from classes 1 to 4 put up attractive displays on four states: Punjab, Kerala, Gujarat and West Bengal. The children performed a dance to showcase the culture of each of the four states under the guidance of dance teacher, Ms. Sakshi. The children were confident and enchanted visitors with all they knew about the states in fluent English.

Some mothers noticed how their children’s personalities showed significant positive change and one even stated that her child’s school grades had improved. The Child Welfare Committee would like to thank our education partner NGO Vidya and its team of teachers, volunteer Mamta Poddar and Nikita for their continuous support in grooming the children.

STREET CHILDREN ARE MONSOON-READY!

Seeing the need to let every child enjoy the rain and still be safe, the Child Welfare Committee arranged raincoats for 80 street kids from Salam Baalak. These children do not have homes to live in but an active childhood and desire to enjoy all seasons and play in puddles just the same.
