The Sports Committee kicks off the RCB Sporting Season in Style!

An outdoor enclosed playing turf, the setting sun and floodlights, made for the perfect setting to hold the first event of the current rotary year by the Sports Committee. The second annual ‘Underarm Cricket’ was held at the NSCI on 11th November and it brought out the child in all the Rotarians reminiscent of our childhood days of ‘Galli Cricket’.

Caught up as we were in the spirit of those youthful times, we could be forgiven for the patently exaggerated appeals and other tomfoolery that we did before we learnt to live by the Four-way Test. Three short, intense matches were enthusiastically contested, with the first two matches seeing honors evenly shared and the last match seeing the chasing team snatch victory off the penultimate ball!

The teams comprised Mukesh Batra, Moy Biswas, Jamshyd Vazifdar, Satyan Israni, Mehul Sampat, Anand Dalal and Anirudh Jatia (Grandson of Vatsala and Ashok Jatia) in one team, and Fali Mehta, Bimal Mehta, Sanjiv Saran Mehra, Mehernosh Dotivala, Gautam Doshi, Murad Currawalla, Mahesh Khubchandani and Hriman Batra (Grandson of Mukesh Batra) in the other team. PP Nowroze with grandson Darius, Ashok Jatia, Vatsala Jatia with their daughter in law dropped in to encourage the players.

After 2 hours of great fun, it was time to honor the best players of the day. Moy went to great lengths to design beautiful trophies which were given to worthy recipients – Anand for some blistering batting, Anirudh for an excellent all round performance and Murad for his flawless batting, bowling and fielding exhibition. The Sports Committee Chairman Jamshyd Vazifdar and Co-Chairman Moy Biswas thanked all the participants and also Satyan for superbly organizing the event.
