Sonal Holland, India’s First Master of Wine talks about the five S’s of Wine tasting
A wine tasting, appreciation and education event was hosted by Vrinda Rajgarhia on 17th November 2016 at her residence. Attended by 40 Rotarians and Rotaryannes, the event saw India’s first and only master of wine, Sonal Holland, educating the guests on the 5 S’s of wine tasting – See, Swirl, Sniff, Sip and Savor.
Sonal educated the guests on the varieties of white wines available, various regions of the world growing white wine grapes; and how to differentiate good wines from the bad ones. She also suggested at what temperatures white wine should be stored & served. Sonal then gave insights about red wine. She spoke about how to identify if the wine is new, mature, light bodied, or heavy bodied, which one can tell by the colour, sniff, swirl, and sip.
She went on to discuss about other Indian Wines too. This was followed by a long session of questions & answers after which a vote of thanks was given to Sonal Holland & Vrinda Rajgarhia by the In-Camera Chair Person Rtn Rekha Tanna. The wine session was followed by the cocktails and dinner hosted graciously by Rtn Vrinda Rajgarhia.
