Alumni visit to Pirojshanagar mangroves
On Saturday, October 19th, a group of 26 alumni from Ambedkar and GK Schools embarked on an enlightening visit to the Sustainability Shala in the Godrej Vikhroli complex. Organised by PP Ramesh, the trip provided a unique opportunity to engage with Mumbai’s second-largest urban wildlife habitat. Following the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the Pirojshanagar Mangroves are vital green lungs for the city, supporting diverse ecosystems.
Upon arrival at the jetty opposite the Godrej complex, participants received an informative talk highlighting the critical role mangroves play in carbon sequestration and their importance in combating climate change. They learned how these unique ecosystems serve as buffers against coastal erosion while enhancing biodiversity. This was followed by a guided nature trail through the lush mangroves, offering a firsthand experience of their beauty and ecological significance.
After the trail, the group enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast at “Hubble” in the Godrej headquarters. They then participated in an engaging session on green buildings, exploring sustainable architecture and its role in promoting an environmentally responsible future.
The day concluded with an inspiring talk on social responsibility, emphasising the importance of giving back to the community. Participants left not only with cherished memories but also with a deeper understanding of the delicate balance that sustains our ecosystems and the need for stewardship in our environment.
