Child Welfare Committee

A Summer of Joy

RCB’s Child Welfare Committee conducted a two-week summer camp in association with NGO Salaam Baalak for the children of their Chowpatty Centre. The camp, held from June 15th-30th, 2021, included art &craft, dance, story-reading& enacting and math camp. About 42 children participated in all the activities.

A fun method was used to teach children mental maths in the math camp while the story sessions encouraged them to summarise the stories they had read in their own words. Six sessions were devoted to freestyle dancing and hip-hop and another six to art & craft. The kids learned to make coasters with tissue paper, mandala art, pebble, bottle art, finger printing, shading, and making designs on envelopes using 3D-outliners and mirrors.

Prizes and gifts were given to them on the last day. While the younger kids were given pouches with nice stationery and a ball, older children got wrist watches. They were also treated to vada pav and chocolates on the last day, July 2nd, 2021.The children of Salaam Baalak displayed what they had learned that fortnight.
It was a joy to see the children so well-engaged and engrossed in what they were learning. After a long period in which their visits to the centre were curtailed to studies and a meal, the children were over-enthusiastic and enjoyed these extra-curriculars.

Sania Khaldi, one of the Salaam Baalak kids, who cleared her 10th standard this year, made a wonderful video to recap the two weeks. RCB acknowledgesthe efforts of Deepisha, Zeenia, Vidya didi and Rajni of SBT for overseeing the camp and making it a success.SBT sincerely thanks everyone at the Rotary Club of Bombay for infusing life into a fearful environment.
