Sports Committee’s First Fellowship: A “Bridge” to Success

The Rotary Club of Bombay (RCB) has long envisioned including
bridge in its annual calendar of sports events. At the start of this
Rotary year, a survey among RCB members revealed strong
interest in the game, leading to a decision to incubate bridge
as a featured activity. Encouraged by PP Arun Sanghi, Sports
Committee Chairman Rtn. Moy Biswas, and President Satyan Israni, bridge was chosen as the inaugural event for the Sports Committee’s agenda this year.

On October 18th, 2024, the Third Bridge Fellowship was held in a vibrant format combining sports and fellowship, aptly titled “An Evening of Bridge.” Hosted at the prestigious Royal Bombay Yacht Club and organised by Rtn. Dr. Mehernosh Dotivala, the event brought together eight pairs competing at four tables for approximately two hours. Tutorials were provided by Director B.G. Daxindas and Scorer Vishwanath Bediya, who expertly set up the tables for the players.

Participants included PP Arun Sanghi, Rtn. Vinita Sanghi, Rtn. Shyam Somani, Rtn. Swati Mayekar, Rtn. Dipan Mehta, Rtn. Sandra Ali Merchant, Rtn. Jagdish Vora, Rtn. Dilip Dalal, Rtn. Christopher Bluemel, Rtn. Sushmita Datta, Rtn. Mudit Jatia, Rtn. Sidhant Jatia, Rtn. Jamshyd Vazifdar, Rtn. Macy
Khubchandani, President Satyan Israni, Rtn. Dr. Mehernosh Dotivala, Rtn. Renu Basu, Rtn. Swati Jadodia, and Rtn. Arish Dastur.

After the tutorial, Rtn. Renu Basu, Rtn. Christopher Bluemel,
Rtn. Sushmita Datta, Rtn. Arish Dastur, Rtn. Jamshyd Vazifdar, and Rtn. Swati Jadodia joined the Fellowship. The winning pair was PP Arun and Rtn. Vinita Sanghi, while Rtn. Swati Jadodia
and Rtn. Swati Mayekar claimed the runners-up spot.

First Lady Naveena, along with son Samaksh, PE Bimal Mehta, Rtn. Abhishek Saraf, and Rtn. Murad Currawala, were also present to support the participants.

Following the prize distribution, everyone enjoyed an evening filled with drinks and finger food, with unanimous agreement that this engaging event should earn a permanent spot on RCB’s
annual calendar.
