Time To Reset: Kalina Biodiversity Park
ROTARY CLUB OF BOMBAY IS HELPING IN THE CONSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY with the creation of a biodiversity park on the Mumbai University campus at Kalina.
A biodiversity park is one of the innovative and positive approaches to promote the conservation of natural resources in an urban matrix. The term biodiversity (from “biological diversity”) refers to the variety of life on Earth at all its levels.
Therefore, protection and conservation of biodiversity is not only a matter of just emotions or aesthetics but it is very important for humans as well as the entire ecosystem.
The main objective of such kind of park is to conserve the biodiversity of the specific area and to maintain and enhance the genetic stock available therein.
Hence, Rotary Club of Bombay has recreated self-sustaining ecosystems, with inclusion of the following: Pollinators pathway, Miyawaki forest which includes almost 2500 native trees and shrubs, urban bird habitat, butterfly garden, bamboo groove, sensory spaces, water body spread across 18,000 sq ft, thriving aquatic eco systems, art installation, meditation space, open amphitheatre and much more.
