Well-Being Session For AY
ANANDA YAAN (BYCULLA CENTRE) ORGANISED A SESSION ON EMOTIONAL WELLBEING FOR ITS MEMBERS ON APRIL 23RD, 2021. WE WERE SUPPORTED IN THIS BY THE SAMARITANS MUMBAI, A RENOWNED HELPLINE IN THE FIELD OF MENTAL/ EMOTIONAL HEALTH.
Ms. Jayashree Patwari, a senior volunteer in Samaritans Mumbai, conducted the session in a unique style. Chairman Rtn. Madhusudan Daga attended the session and welcomed the speaker warmly. Ms. Jayashree explained to members that emotions are just energy in motion with relevant examples and a PowerPoint presentation. She further explained how
uncontrolled emotions create hurdles in peace and living happily.
Ms. Jayashree suggested exercises in controlling emotions. She said, we can check our emotions and work on them, and taught a simple breathing exercise to members. Suggestions on dealing with emotions were discussed, like empathising with another person, accepting the situation, getting our logical mind work and broadening the options. She also discussed things one has full control of, things that one does not have control of and things that one can influence. With the simple example of a balloon, it was explained how keeping emotions inside creates issues and hence expressing is needed. She also spoke about lifestyle and shared how the Samaritan Helpline was started.
Here is what she shared: Resource Person – Ms Jayashree Patwari
