‘Bhavishya-Yaan’ takes a leap into e-learning

 In Bhavishya Yaan

The ambitious e-learning initiative of the Bhavishya-Yaan++ Committee and the Rotary Club of Bombay was launched on June 29 with the students of two municipal schools reaping its benefits in the first phase. President Shailesh Haribhakti was delighted with the successful roll-out of the programme for the Dr. Ambedkar School at Worli and the N.M. Joshi Marg School at Lower Parel. He had urged the Committee, which had Shivkumar Israni as Chairman, to set things in motion as soon as possible.

With this, the Rotary Club of Bombay had demonstrated that it was possible to deliver the benefits of the latest technology to the children of all municipal schools. The President distributed tablets to some of the students present at the inaugural programme. This was followed by a presentation on English learning and a few subjects from the school syllabus that demonstrated the potential of the e-learning initiative.

The Bhavishya-Yaan Committee had, in the course of the year, worked hard to identify the agencies that could partner it in offering the programme. Finally, it zeroed in on two, viz., M/s. Learntech Innovations of Ahmedabad and Sum Concepts from Pune. It was only after demonstrations and trial runs that it was decided to launch the initiative. Rotaryann Avaan Vakharia coordinated the event which was attended by several members, Office-Bearers and others. President Shailesh, President- Elect Dr. Sonya Mehta, Director Preeti Mehta and Chairman Shivkumar lit the ceremonial lamp. Chairman Shivkumar highlighted the growing importance of technology in day-to-day life and said that it was now also impacting the education sector. President Shailesh Haribhakti said that in the coming years there would be even greater stress on information technology, bio-technology and nano-technology. After the speeches, students of the two schools (led by Rotaryann Jaya Prasad) presented a skit highlighting some aspects of IT. The vote of thanks was proposed by Co-Chair Rajesh Shah.
