In Camera Presents ‘Many Ramayanas’ with Dr. Vidya V

Rotarians are invited to a unique historical, informative and interactive opportunity, with noted historian Dr. Vidya Vencatesan, as she discusses the various interpretations of the epic, ‘Ramayana’, as portrayed in the eclectic flavors through the length and breadth of India. The discussion will be held on the eve of 4th February, 2016 at PP Rtn. Ajay Kanoria’s residence at Altamount Road and will be followed by dinner. Due to limited capacity, you’re requested to register at the earliest.

After a series of successful events, RCB’s In Camera Committee now invites Rotarians to a unique historical, informative and interactive opportunity, with noted historian Dr. Vidya Vencatesan, Professor and Head, Dept. of French, University of Mumbai. She will address the topic of discussion – ‘Many Ramayanas’ – detailing the numerous interpretations of the epic, ‘Ramayana’, as portrayed in the eclectic flavors through the length and breadth of India. The epic Ramayana tells the tale of Lord Rama, the discussion will be about how the different Ramayanas through the length and breadth of the country tell the story differently. This talk will look at the episode of the Rama-Sita wedding as imagined and retold by Valmiki, Kamban, Krittibas and Tulsidas. This will illustrate how the same key events have been enumerated in different retellings of this epic.

The talk will be followed by an interactive session with present members. The discussion will be held on the 4th February, 2016 at 7:30pm, at PP Rtn. Ajay and Vandana Kanoria’s residence at Bhagwati Bhavan, Altamount Road and will be followed by dinner, graciously hosted by the Kanorias. Her doctoral thesis is comparative study of the Kamban Ramayan and a French epic.
