Independence Day Celebrations At BY

 In Bhavishya Yaan

India celebrated its 70th Independence Day this year. And like in the rest of the country, our Bhavishya Yaan students too expressed their patriotism and nationality by celebrating this day with great pomp and grandeur.

About 350 students from the various centers came dressed in their traditional attire. In fact, one of them even chose to become Gandhiji!

In keeping with the fervor, the children decorated their classes in tricolor and prepared a variety of performances on the theme. There were poetry recitations, speeches on what independence meant to them, and dances that were choreographed by the students themselves.

Wanting to know more, we spoke to the Rotaryannes coordinating at the various schools, and here’s what they had to say:

“It was a wonderful and humbling experience to see the children participate so enthusiastically in the celebrations, and take pride in being Indian” – Rashmi Bapna, Byculla Center.

“It was endearing to see our BY children enact the freedom fighters and make a tremendous effort at infusing patriotism in all our hearts” – Poonam Surana, Colaba Center “The essence of Independence Day lies in breaking boundaries, not just politically but also in breaking the barriers that we set within ourselves. This is exactly how we felt watching the BY children perform, who until four year ago did not know English, and today they can speak with such confidence and pride” – Ekta Shah and Asha Shah, G K Marg Center Finally the program at each school ended with the distribution of snacks, and a promise that the children will only speak in English, the next time they performed.
