Rotaract Clubs off to a cracking start

The Rotaract Clubs sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bombay got off to a flying start with the advent of the new year, according to Rotaract Chairman Satyan Israni. The Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College launched “Messenger” – a project to say “Thank You” to the Mumbai police. The Rotaractors will go around the college campus over two months and request students to write a “Thank You” message to the police. Then, they will print a banner with all the messages on it and present it to the Police Commissioner.

Another project, along with the Rotaract Club of H.R. College, is “Puzzled” and involves the Rotaractors competing in a pit-stop race around Churchgate attempting to complete various puzzling tasks, some of them with an international flavour. The Rotaract Club of H.R. College began the new Rotaract year by lining up projects across various Avenues of Service. For example, “Grand Theft” was a quiz contest for Club members; under “Finding Nemo”, they took 100 underprivileged children (aged between three and five years) from the Colaba Garden School to see the aquatic world at Taraporevala Aquarium.

The Colaba Garden School is run by nuns who provide primary education to street and slum children. The Club also conducted a “BOD Parents Nite” to familiarise the parents of Rotaractors with the altruistic work being done by their children and to give them a better understanding about the Rotaract organisation as a whole. Another event called “Glow Sports” saw the Rotaractors engage in sports activities like golf and football in the dark – with glowing equipment – to give them a totally different perspective. Finally, they had a project called “Basix” which was a cyber workshop conducted in order to give the Rotaractors basic knowledge about various aspects of computing like blocking viruses, deleting unnecessary data, optimising usage and so on.

The Rotaract Club of Government Dental College started planning projects well in advance. It kick-started the year with a project in association with other Clubs and the Central Railway. This was a blood donation camp at the busy CST station. It helped collect over 150 bottles of blood.
