Rotary Club of Bombay visits Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital
Nita Ambani
On September 6, Rotarians and Rotaryannes had a unique experience – they were actually happy to visit a hospital. Most hospital visits (except for the birth of babies) are very somber experiences, but this one was different. The Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital visit was kindly arranged by Rtn. Vita Dani, and more than 150 Rotarians and their family members took this opportunity to visit the facility, which promises to deliver world-class affordable healthcare.
The hospital is spread over more than 8 lakh sq. ft. and will have approximately 350 patient rooms. It consists of three buildings, including the original HN Hospital building, which has been awarded the status of a heritage structure. The new tower building is 19 floors high, and, as expected, boasts of state-of-the-art equipment and technology. There are many firsts to the hospital’s credit, including being a totally green and eco-friendly facility. However, what impressed Rotarians the most was the amazing service which was evident throughout the visit. The staff at every station was extremely polite and believed in the vision of bringing about a paradigm shift in the way healthcare is delivered in our country. The hospital, set to be inaugurated on Dussehra, is a multispecialty hospital, with a focus on oncology, cardiology, orthopedics, urology, neurology and maternity services.
For many Rotarians, the visit to the Heritage Wing brought back a flood of memories. Some of them were born in the building, while several others had close family and friends admitted in it in the past. Rtn. Dr. Nayna Dastur could even recall where each of the wards was located in the past. At the end of the visit, the hostess, R/anne Nita Ambani, gave a short talk on the history of the hospital and its journey since inception in 1925. She is the Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation and is deeply involved in every aspect of the project, which she is also passionate about.
She requested Rotarians to paint their names on posters to be put up in the children’s ward. The visit ended with a lavish high tea. Rotarians were impressed with the facility and thanked R/anne Nita for the opportunity.
