PRESIDENT’S MONTHLY MUSINGS
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I reflect on the vibrant month of September, my heart swells with pride for the energy and dedication that flows through the Rotary Club of Bombay.
September brought some incredible speakers to our weekly meetings, sparking conversations and sharing insights. We were honoured to host Anupama Chopra, a film critic and National Award-winning author, in conversation with Samira Sood. Her thoughts on inclusivity in cinema were particularly thought-provoking.
Additionally, we had an enlightening session with PP Dr. Mukesh Batra and Rtn. Dr. Akshay Batra on the relevance of homoeopathy in modern healthcare. The father-son duo shared a perfect blend of traditional wisdom and contemporary medical practice. We also welcomed Past Trustee Gulam A. Vahanvaty, who expanded our perspective on Rotary’s reach through peace education.
One notable celebration was the presentation of the Somchand Parikh Award for Best Teacher to Mr. Ajit Bhoir, Principal of District W. School in Savaroli, recognising his dedication and contribution to education.
The festive spirit of Ganpati infused joy across our Bhavishya Yaan, Lighthouse, and Ananda Yaan programmes. It was heartwarming to witness Bhavishya Yaan alumni returning to conduct a Ganpatimaking workshop for current students, a true testament to the lasting impact of our initiatives. The children at Lighthouse had their share of fun as well, indulging in an art competition at the NCPA and enjoying a trip to a local supermarket to learn practical life skills like budgeting.
We achieved significant milestones this month, starting with the inauguration of the Mallika-Rotary Dialysis Centre on September 1st, 2024, a collaboration with Mallika Hospital. This addition furthers our ongoing mission to provide affordable healthcare.
On September 28th, 2024, we were proud to inaugurate the Rotary Peace Grove at the Rotary-HDFC Biodiversity Park, in the presence of TRF Trustee Chair Mark Maloney and Rtn. Ptn. Gay Maloney. This initiative marks our dedication to environmental conservation and peacebuilding.
Our Legal Awareness Committee held an online event on September 21st, 2024, focussing on the rights and protections of senior citizens. Supported by the Maharashtra Human Rights Commission and the District Legal Services Authority, the event was a resounding success with over 100 participants, including residents of old age homes across Maharashtra.
On September 14th, we visited the Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery for a fellowship event showcasing the life and legacy of Ramkrishna Bajaj. The exhibition, Freedom to Progress, was an educational and nostalgic experience that deepened our appreciation for the leaders who have shaped India’s journey.
As we reflect on this month, I extend my deepest gratitude to all of you for your continued passion and dedication. September was filled with achievements and celebrations, and I’m confident that the momentum we’ve built will carry us through the rest of the year with even greater impact.
Warm regards,
Rtn. Satyan Israni
