CELEBRATING WITH RO TARY

Last week saw two quite distinct types of celebrations for our Club: the first was the TRF seminar touted to be the Oscars of TRF where, in a glittering ceremony, many donors to the Rotary foundation were feted and honoured by no less than the Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta.

As the evening saw the Who’s Who of our District 3141 in all their tuxedo splendour, it was Shekhar who was the star of the show. With his inimitable warm and engaging way, he was able to explain how the simple act of giving by a donor today would result in multiple receipts back to our clubs and projects three years later.

Hence, by giving to TRF, you were multiplying your donation many times over which is an attractive proposition for any donor to know that his money will go that much further and help so many more individuals.

That truly is the definition of a leader: someone who can inspire and motivate his team to support a cause.

You were left with the feeling that by contributing to TRF you were, in a small way, contributing to ease hunger and pain in the world. A brotherhood of people bringing us closer to world peace and prosperity; an enormously powerful and empowering prospect!

And then, as the festive season crept onto us, we had our Christmas Fellowship; a small bunch of happy Rotarians ready to party and lift our spirits.

Many in red, happy to see old familiar faces again and, best of all, many of our newer, younger members all having a jolly good time together. As we chatted, it became clear that these youngsters need a voice and the opportunity to serve and be part of the Club they have joined. So, not only assimilation through Fellowship but also leadership positions will bring new and relevant skill sets to our aging Club.

As much as we would like to see our old legacies upheld, we need to understand the value of change in keeping ourselves relevant to the times!

Change not at the cost of but aligned to the values of Rotary for the benefit of all.
