BUSY WEEK AT RCB

It’s been a busy week at RCB and the beginning of many firsts! On Sunday last, we were in Palghar at a school in
Boisar inaugurating the IT Innovation lab that was set up through DGE Sandip Agarwalla as an RCB project supported by other Rotary Clubs of Palghar.

It has been set up to provide hands-on technology training in the fields of applied Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT) and 3D Printing to underprivileged school children and youth of the area.

Last Tuesday, we welcomed and pinned some of our new members of the Satellite Club at our first totally offline meeting. It was so good to be back at the Taj again!

Soon after, there was an award ceremony at YMCA to felicitate the bright youngsters of the Night Study centre who had been awarded scholarships by our Club. Seeing the eager young faces supported by their even more eager parents was such joy.

One rotund father came up and declared: “I am only a bhaji seller but thanks to you all I have a son who will be educated and become successful!”

Yesterday, we attended another award ceremony. This time it was to award the women of the Vaidu community who had passed through a literacy course curated by TCS and sponsored by our Club. The women were just so happy to be recognised and respected for their first milestone towards literacy. We owe our gratitude to TCS and DGE Sandip
for introducing them to us.

Come Saturday, and we all gathered to inaugurate the Elder’s Day Care Centre at Alibaug, a place for seniors to come together during the day and enjoy the camaraderie.

It was a lovely, cool morning as we welcomed Anitaben Parikh to inaugurate the Centre in the name of her husband, who was equally wedded to the Rotary.

The real hero was PP Ashish Vaid who not only executed the entire project but also donated towards it and ensured its final completion. Then, to a relaxing lunch at the tree-covered Vaid Wadi, where the flowing beer and Italian fare set the pace for an Alibaug day out!

Then, one group of early returnees joined us for tea at our house as we awaited the next group to join. At night, we once again welcomed a few Rotarians to a happy dinner fellowship under a golden moon! Our first outstation fellowship of the year was completed with the warmth that only comes from meeting our old friends again!
