Note From President Shernaz Vakil
DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
In a world that is fast becoming polarised by politics, religion, ethnicity, and casteism we, at Rotary, are an international organisation that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
How do we ensure this?
Our members are invited to be members of the Club based on their suitability to fit into the values and ethos of the Club.
We have a stringent process we follow that ensures that the members we invite will enjoy, participate, and actively engage in our fellowships and service projects.
In addition, Rotary values diversity and endeavours to unite people of diverse backgrounds, wanting to make that lasting change in the world.
The unifying process is the common need to do good and share a passion for community service.
As we come together in friendship, we strengthen our resolve to improve lives in our communities.
Leaders that come together and find solutions to challenges in our societies that have a lasting and long-term effect on the community.
The process of planning that we follow creates a model of sustainability.
Past leaders provide the wisdom, the current board provides the responsibility whilst new members showing leadership potential add to the possibilities.
This year, together with the President Elect and the next two in the Presidential succession, we were able to study
and chart out a three year plan. This was to provide continuity throughout the next three years.
As our Club moves towards a hundred years of existence, it is because of the diligence and dedication of our Past
Presidents that we will be assured of a golden future.
I have, over this year, realised what an onerous responsibility it is to lead this Club and how important it is to
follow our traditional values that ensure the sustainability that has kept us on course over 95 years! So, RCB may
be discerning but not discriminating, selective of its members, choosing those that will enhance and progress its values and vision.
