2015-01-20-The_Gateway_Jan_20-26On Tuesday, January 13, District Governor Ajay Gupta addressed the Rotary Club of Bombay at his annual visit. He started by inviting Rotarians to an open dialogue with him. “All your suggestions and questions are welcome. We need to know what changes and adjustments can be made at a district level. If you have prepared something and would like to share it, please feel free to do so with us,” he said.Rtn.
Roda Billimoria shared a brief report on the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship. A member from the Women’s Empowerment Committee also delivered a short report on its formation and initiatives such as building public toilets for women. The DG commended their efforts and requested the Club to take assistance from the District as well as other clubs. Rtn. Zinia Lawyer, Co-chair of the Medical and Cancer Aid Committee, shared the committee’s experiences working with Tata Memorial Hospital. The Bhavishya Yaan Committee also shared its report and future plans for BY students across Mumbai.
President Rtn. Shailesh Haribhakti then discussed some of the major initiatives taken up by the Club in the last year such as the donation of Braille material to all Blind Schools in India, the night schools and vocational centres, the relief work and fundraising for J&K and all the fellowship functions.
In the ensuing meeting, PP Rtn. Sandip Agarwalla announced his withdrawal from the position of District Governor 2016-18. The DG honoured Rotarians who contributed $1,000 or more with the Paul Harris Fellow certificates.
