BY Boys Beat President’s XI by 5 Wickets!

On the cool, windy and crisp February 27th morning, the President’s XI took on the might of the Bhavishya-Yaan XI at the Seventh Annual Cricket Fellowship, held at the P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Marine Drive. The match was organised by the Bhavishya Yaan Committee jointly with the Sports Committee of RCB, who have held exciting events in Table Tennis, Football and Golf in the recent past. The cricket match was a tremendous success, with several non- players and non-cricketers waking up early on a Saturday morning to participate in the enthusiasm of the match. All players (11) from RCB and 15 from Bhavishya-Yaan Committee, along with the Coordinators were present by 8:30 am. As both the skippers walked for the toss, Rtn. Nowroze tossed the coin and the toss was won by the BY team who chose to field first.

The President’s XI team comprised Rtns.: Hoshang Nazir (Captain), Bimal Mehta, Jaidev Merchant, Samir Mogul, Satyan Israni, Ashwin Thakkar, Anuj Arenja, Mehernosh Dotivala, Avyayaraj Arenja (Nephew of Anuj Arenja and Advay Sanghi (Grandson of Arun Sanghi). The BY XI team comprised: Sudarshan Pardhi (Captain), Ramesh Chauhan, Kumar Chauhan (Colaba School), Hritik Magre, Roshan Devale, Vishal Kute (Byculla School), Saurabh Patil, Rishikesh Patil, Kartik Patil (NMJ Marg School) Raj Kamble, Sohail Shekh, Pranit Kijbile (GK Marg School) and Kaustabh Gaikwad, Shivam More and Roshan Tiwari (Worli School). with 5 wickets and 5 overs to spare! The common thread running through the match and what held together was Rtn. Moy’s meticulous planning and constant supervision. Rtns. Deepak Kapadia, Nowroze Vazifdar and Moy presented mementoes to the BY team, before heading for the celebratory lunch.

Samir Mogul and Ashwin Thakkar. They finally folded up at 147, with Rtn. Samir having scored a brilliant 52, and Rtn. Ashwin at 25. After a short interval, the Bhavishya- Yaan boys walked out to bat with supreme confidence. They made a slow start too, thanks to the brilliant bowling by Rtns. Samir and Hoshang and the agile wicketkeeping by Bimal Mehta. But the BY Boys’ impressive batting got them cruising home and capturing 3 wickets of the opponents. The prize was a Sports Kit sponsored by Rtn. Satyan Israni consisting of a Sachin Tendulkar Adidas Cricket bat, a Football and couple of Badminton rackets. Rtn. Moy brought the curtain down on the event by thanking Deepak Kapadia for his invaluable contribution in arranging all the facilities at the P.J. Hindu Gymkhana and Rtn. Satyan Israni for sponsoring the ‘Man of the Match’ prize.
